Tips to improve your baby’s digestive health

Your little one’s internal health is dependent upon their digestive systems health. If you have been noticing your child suffering from any discomfort or digestive ailments, it is important that you address these health issues as digestive distress, it can cause serious health related ailments. And in order to keep your little one away from any digestive distress it is important to improve his or her digestive system.

Don’t overfeed your child: While as a parent you would want to feed your child quite often as they grow, you need to understand that there has to be a reasonable limit to it. You need to know that your child must eat in proper proportions & that every child’s appetite differ from one another. Also make sure that you closely watch your little one’s diet so that you can ensure that they eating just enough & in the right proportion. Overfeeding should always be avoided as your child’s digestive system may not be able to handle it. An easy indicator is if the child keeps pulling away when you are trying to feed them, they generally will eat when they are hungry.

Include high fiber food in their diet: When it comes to gut health, high fiber food intake can be very helpful. Foods like apples, berries, beans and high-fiber cereals can improve your child’s digestive health.

Keep them hydrated: Give your little one plenty of fluids to drink throughout the day! Staying well-hydrated will also improve your child’s bowel movements. For countries like India where one has live under extreme hot climatic conditions, this tip can be very useful. You can also include fruit juices & milk in their diet to improve their digestive health.

Encourage physical activity: Some amount of physical activity be it outdoors like at a playground or at home is important. This way your child’s body remains physically active & healthy. This also improves the good bacteria in their bodies. When children indulge in physical activities, endorphins are released from their body that can improve digestive health. Some amount of physical activity during the day will also boost vitamin D levels in body which can improve your child’s bones, skin and even hair health.

Avoid junk food: While it may be tempting for your little one to enjoy a fast food meal, you need to restrict their consumption of these foods as they cause an adverse effect on your child’s digestive health. Processed foods can also cause digestive problems which can affect your child’s health.

Try Probiotics: You can now buy over the counter probiotic drops and even formula that has added probiotics, these good enzymes help with digestive problems, like gas or constipation. Probiotics are a good option for newborn babies to toddles that suffer from digestive problems.
